This creative arts "playshop" for adults and teens emphasizes experiential learning and authentic self-expression. We will meet for eight evenings, once a week, with different teachers from our Artists for Change Guild, who will inspire participants with their particular mode of expression. No prior experience in art is necessary. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience a variety of artistic mediums in the relaxed and non-judgemental atmosphere of the Avalon Retreat Centre. Class size will be limited to a small group, so please register early.

The first session involves some discussion and play around the larger issues of the creative process, including:  accessing inspiration, becoming comfortable with improvisation, building confidence, releasing blocks and the inner critic, discovering art as a healing activity and joyful metaphor for life.

Avalon’s faculty of artists will then facilitate exploration in the following six areas of focus:

  • Painting with water colours
  • Sculpture with modeling clay
  • Dancing and drumming
  • Creative movement and active meditation
  • Singing and sound healing
  • Drama, poetry and storytelling

We will close our series with an informal social evening of storytelling, singing and drumming. We will listen to some traditional myths and stories from world culture, and share our own archetypical experiences. We will weave our creativity into learning some new vocal melodies and rhythms.
