This creative arts and healing series for adults and teens emphasizes experiential learning and authentic self-expression. Eight day-long sessions will be offered within the year by different teachers from our Artists for Change and Healers Guilds, who will inspire participants with their particular modes of expression. No prior experience in the creative arts or healing modalities is necessary. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore the relaxed, nature-inspired and non-judgemental atmosphere of the Avalon Retreat Centre. Class size will be limited to a small group, so please register early.

The first workshop session involves opening the creative life force and harmonizing the body's energy chakras through Sacred Sound Yoga (Nada Yoga).  The power of toning, mantras, Tibetan bowl meditation, etc will be explored.

The second workshop will include some discussion and play around the larger issues of the creative process, including:  accessing inspiration, becoming comfortable with improvisation, building confidence, releasing blocks and the inner critic, discovering art and sound as a healing activity and joyful metaphor for life.

Avalon’s faculty of artists and healers will then facilitate exploration in the following five areas of focus:

  • Painting with water colours; sculpture with clay
  • Fine art, classical and world music appreciation
  • Learning flutes and drumming
  • Creative movement (free dance) and active meditation
  • Singing as a form of vocal healing

We will close our series with an inspired social event, which weather-permitting will include gathering around the campfire. Alternatively the Avalon Retreat Centre has a wood-burning fireplace. We will listen to some traditional myths, poems and stories from world culture, and share our own archetypical experiences. We will weave our creativity into learning some new vocal melodies and rhythms.
